Life’s A Beach. Or A Bitch. Or Both.

Day 54
When I dreamed about being on sabbatical, this is what I thought it would look like.
Today it did. I snapped this shot right after lunch. Yup, just what I had in mind.
What I didn’t expect: the number of loved ones for whom serious issues arose today, ranging from personal injury to interfamily crisis to fear for someone’s life.
Also unexpected: the surprise of dolphins leaping high out of the water and the biggest ray I’ve ever seen, all too fast for my camera.
Today brought bliss, and today also presented the temptation to plunge into worry and sadness. I am choosing to focus on the positive, expecting the best possible outcomes for all of the people I care about who are experiencing the pain that this day brought.
No matter how remote the sabbatical locale, and no matter how well one manages to step away from one’s usual job, there’s no time-out from life. No matter what you may imagine an ideal respite to be, chances are you’re going to slam smack into reality right in the middle of your beautiful dream.
The trick is to find a way to embrace that reality with peace and equipoise. I’m working on it.

Some of us are very fortunate. Life is not fair.

This is so true! I quit my job 6 months ago to travel and recharge. I love travelling but have also found that I like being at home as well. What a great reminder that life goes on and that we need to take time to smell the roses each day!

Today the diagnosis, tomorrow holds what? This is the time between what is 'no longer' and the reality of 'what is'. Ahhh life…
