The Plan For Today

Day 65

Someone close to me is in an unfamiliar situation today:  there’s no plan for the day because of a travel snafu.

This is creating discomfort, because the person always has a full schedule.  The surprise shutdown of the customary flurry of activity brought this person to a  revelation.  It’s the same one I had when I started this sabbatical:  Being busy is a distraction that keeps us from encountering our deepest selves.

Being busy allows us to avoid thinking about things we’d rather not.

I mentioned this to my friend Marielen, who is visiting me.

She reminded me that not having a plan IS a plan.

So that’s the plan for today – not having a plan.

If you don’t have a plan for today, you might want to check out the TEDx event happening in New York City today. It’s streaming live at http://tedxnyed.com/live/ and the next session starts at 11:30am Eastern time.
