Every Day Is Valentine’s Day

Day 45

After 23 years together, my husband and I like to say that “Every day is Valentine’s Day” and therefore we don’t usually perform the tribal rituals the way we did in the 1980s.

Sometimes one of us comes up with an unexpected nod to the culturally mandated celebration of romance. This year he thought so far ahead that he was able to send dozens of long-stemmed red roses in a lovely vase to the hotel room where we were staying.  It was a pre-order from Costco and he couldn’t resist telling me how cheap it was.  (In this relationship, we agree that the bigger the bargain the more wonderful the gift.)

We leave the romantic restaurants to those for whom dressing up and going out is special – we think our house is the most romantic place to be.

I know that sounds corny.

But we really have learned that every day is Valentine’s Day if you want it to be.
